It's not at all unusual to see an artist painting this gate, just off Canyon Road in Santa Fe. But that's on a nice summer day. At night, the gate and the wall take on an entirely different feeling.

Sitting in the dirt, playing cars. A long, long time ago. One of my favorite things to do when I was a boy. The whole world was right at the ends of my fingers then. I still like having toy cars around. They sit on shelves, on window sills, and in this case, on our coffee table, where Thea placed this one next to an old truck that was given to me by a dear friend years ago. "There, she said, that's us, John and Thea!" Sometimes the simplest things give the greatest pleasure.
