Art of the American West
"When
the Spaniards brought the horse to America, the life of Native Americans
was forever changed. Indian myths named the horse "Sacred Dog."
Altering the Plains tribes to a full-time nomadic life, the horse also
made buffalo hunting easier, and it brought the Plains Indians to their
Golden Age of Great Prosperity, from 1750-1886, which lasted until the
last buffalos were killed by white hunters. Farnsworth's love for horses
is seen in the larger-than-life Remuda (Spanish word for a relay
of horses). It was painted by mixing only primary colors: red, yellow,
and blue."
