This
painting is also known as Jackrabbit and the Punk. My dear friend, Greg
Guymon, when he first saw this painting shouted that's Jackrabbit and
The Punk! He recognized two of the horses as being from the string of
horses on a Mormon ranch he had worked on the side of Mingus Mountain in
Central Arizona. Greg was the a true mountain man who headquartered in
the Verde Valley, but roamed from Wyoming to Mexico. He even rode from
Cottonwood Arizona to the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Wyoming in the 70's
with another real Mountain Man, Jeffrey Hengesbaugh. All the way on
horse back, and they refused to carry anything as modern, even, as
matches. I'm proud to say that Greg and his wife Georgeanne were married
on horseback on my ranch in Arizona, and that Jeffrey and his lovely
wife Frannie held their wedding reception in our adobe home in Taos,
many years later.
