This is one of those examples of why we should always turn and look behind us when we're photographing something. On the way up Canyon Road one day late last summer, I jumped out of the car to grab some shots of a rainbow. When I turned around and looked down, there was this raindrop covered Petunia. The rainbow lost.

This is a painting that I started back in the early eighties. But when I was finished with it, I just wasn't satisfied. So I've been dragging it around ever since. In and out of storage, threatening repeatedly to reuse the stretcher bars.
Finally, though, at Thea's insistence, I decided to give it another go. Seemed like a good way to start out in my new studio. I floundered around in it for a day or two, and then, suddenly, it took on a life of its own, and all the problems seemed to solve themselves. I just hung on to the brush and went along for the ride. Sometimes you just have to wait until the time is right. Come see it, if you can, in our new gallery at 716 Canyon Road in Santa Fe.
