GERANIUM
For me, the scent of Geranium brings back a flood of memories like no other flower. It takes me back to a much simpler time.

DEATH OF A WAGON

As a boy I visited the ranch where my uncle, T.O.Woody, was foreman. It was on the banks of the Canadian River in the Texas Panhandle, outside Adrian. A few years ago, I returned and visited the old ranch house. Outback, I found this old wagon that had been crushed by a falling Cottonwood tree. But I couldn't find the tree where I used to go and pick fresh, ripe peaches to sit and daydream about being a cowboy. Or an artist. I still have memories of those cold mornings, riding out to the roundup before dawn, the first light, the cook tent, dark silhouettes of cowboys breaking their rides for the day's work. Those memories are among my greatest treasures. They put me to work opening and closing the branding chute. I was downwind all day of the stench of burning hair. Can't say I liked it much then, but it's another treasured memory, now. When I asked the current foreman about my uncle, he said, no, he didn't know anything about anyone by that name. Then, after a moment's reflection, he said, Oh, come to think of it, there's a windmill over in that direction, named after him. Well, that's a better legacy than none.

Here's our full-page ad for the 2008-2009 Collector's Guide. This was one of those fun projects in which I got to be Painter, Photographer, Model, (OK, That's a stretch) Graphic Artist and  Designer  all at one go. And now I have the pleasure of adding it to our web site in my capacity as Web Master. Ain't life grand?

The painting in the background, by the way, is Cinco Pasos, and can be seen in its entirety , without the foreground distraction,
