SUNFACE

For over forty years, I've watched my paintings go right from the easel into private and corporate collections.

For that I am most grateful. However, as a not very prolific painter who believes that art should be mainly about communication, I often longed for a way to reach a wider audience.

The advent of the Internet and Giclée printing have made it possible to share my vision with that wider audience.

When I heard about Giclée printing, I was excited to think of the extended life that was suddenly opened up for my paintings.

But were they permanent? Were they affordable? These and other questions came quickly to mind as I began learning about this exciting new medium.

The family tradition is still strong in Mexico, especially among the Charros. As with horse people everywhere, young and old alike participate.

This group represents a Grandfather, his Son, and his Son, in turn.

MOUNTAIN LION KACHINA

The experts have labeled this Kachina a Kweo, or Wolf Kachina. Having been face to face with a Mountain Lion on a moonless night, however, I prefer to think of it as a Mountain Lion Kachina. The original oil pastel on canvas is in my own private collection.

Giclée (zhee-clay) is a French word meaning "to spray." In other words, it is an inkjet print, much like those that can now be produced on a desktop printer. But on Steroids. Capable of printing large format images on watercolor paper, canvas, and other media, using as many as twelve colors, Giclée printers spray millions of microscopic droplets of ink, per second, resulting in resolutions higher than traditional lithography, resulting in crisp contrast and rich, intense colors. The results can be breathtaking.

First, a digital scan is made, either from a 4" x 5" photographic transparency, or directly from the original, up to 50" x 50" and transferred to a computer. Then, using Adobe Photoshop and other programs, I correct and clean up the image. This is a process that takes from several hours to days of work and test prints until everything is just the way I want it. It is then archived on disk, in order to assure consistency.

When finished and properly framed under glass, or, in the case of stretched canvases, covered with a protective coating, the final Giclée is archival and will last for 75 to 150 years under normal conditions. Our Giclées are printed at Barry Norris Studios in Taos, New Mexico, to the most exacting standards, using the very latest and most advanced inks, papers, and technology. Barry’s empathetic eye enables him to produce the most exacting and faithful reproductions available.

A Farnsworth Giclée Fine Art Reproduction is unconditionally guaranteed, and is always worth the purchase price should the collector ever wish to trade up to an original Farnsworth painting.

Our Giclées are offered in limited editions of 75 to 175, in the same size as the original. Smaller sizes are also available in open editions. All are signed on the reverse along with the title, place of signing, and labeled Giclée. Limited editions also, of course, include the unique number of the individual print and the size of the edition as in this example: 37/175, meaning the thirty seventh print in an edition of 175.
