UP OUT OF ALBUQUERQUE
Oil on Canvas
36" x 36"
USD $8,000
As a young artist, I had no real desire to travel beyond the American Southwest . The landscape, the people, the history, especially of the Four Corners Region of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah were more interesting to me than were things and places I knew little of.
A major portion of my life has been spent along old Route 66 as it crosses Northern Arizona and Northern New Mexico. UP OUT OF ALBUQUERQUE is a representation of my feelings whenever I have climbed the long mesa west of Albuquerque on a returning to Arizona after a summer of painting in Taos and Santa Fe.
The three watercolors below were painted in the build up to UP OUT OF ALBUQUERQUE. Each 10 x 14 inches.

(You can visit our home on pages 54 through 57 of the October, 2001 issue of the
Santa Fean Magazine)
The mountain in the distance is Picuris (He paints). Part of our 140 year old adobe
house is visible in one, including the horno, or beehive oven, in which we like to
cook goat, elk, and turkey overnight for occasional parties. The fields below our
house are rapidly being turned into the yards of new homes. We're having a really
dry year, but the clouds have been spectacular and seem to have been around longer
than usual this season. I enjoy painting clouds, both in watercolor and in oil, and
they are a great way for me to jump-start myself after a being away from the easel
for a while, as when I'm working on this site.
